Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 17, 2026
ReadAgain ("ReadAgain," "we," "us") is operated by John Frenking as an individual — no separate business entity. This Privacy Policy explains what information ReadAgain collects, how it's used, and the choices you have.
"Personal information" means information that identifies, relates to, describes, or can reasonably be linked to you.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information: When you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google OAuth.
- Reading DNA inputs: During onboarding, you provide free-text and structured responses about books you've loved and why — including emotional/reflective responses used to build your Reading DNA profile.
- Reading activity: Books you save, mark as reading, mark as read, or remove; reading progress and finish-by-date goals you set; notes and quotes you add.
- Feedback: Any messages you submit through the in-app feedback form.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information above to:
- Generate and evolve your Reading DNA profile
- Generate personalized book recommendations
- Track your reading activity within the app (shelf, currently-reading, notes)
- Respond to feedback and improve the product
- Maintain your account and authenticate you on sign-in
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
2a. Automatically Collected Technical Data
Like nearly all web applications, our hosting infrastructure (Vercel) automatically logs standard technical data on each visit — including your IP address, browser type, and general device information. This is standard server-log behavior, not a deliberate tracking mechanism, and isn't used to build an advertising profile of you.
3. AI Processing
ReadAgain uses the Anthropic Claude API to generate your Reading DNA profile and book recommendations. This means the reading preferences and reflective text you provide during onboarding (and later updates) are sent to Anthropic's API to produce your results.
- This data is used to generate your personal results — it is not used to train Anthropic's models, per Anthropic's API data usage terms.
- AI-generated content (your DNA summary, recommendations, "tell me more" details) is produced algorithmically and may not always be fully accurate. See our Terms of Service for more on this.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account and reading data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (see Section 7), your associated data is removed from our systems, subject to any residual copies retained briefly by our infrastructure providers as part of normal backup cycles. We currently do not automatically delete inactive accounts.
5. Third-Party Service Providers
We use the following providers to operate ReadAgain. Each processes a category of your data as part of providing their service to us:
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, authentication, storage |
| Vercel | Application hosting |
| Vercel Analytics | Anonymized, aggregated site usage statistics (page views, referrers, approximate location, device type) |
| Google OAuth | Sign-in authentication |
| Anthropic (Claude API) | AI generation of Reading DNA and recommendations |
| Resend | Transactional email (e.g., account-related emails) |
| Redis / Upstash | Caching and rate limiting |
We don't control these providers' own data practices beyond our agreements with them; you can review their respective privacy policies for more detail.
6. Cookies
ReadAgain uses only essential cookies required for authentication (managed via Supabase) to keep you signed in. We do not use tracking, analytics cookies, or marketing cookies. During Google sign-in, Google sets its own cookies as part of the OAuth process — those are governed by Google's privacy policy, not this one.
We use Vercel Analytics to understand overall site usage. It does not use cookies and does not collect information that identifies you individually — it records anonymized, aggregated data such as page views, referring sites, approximate location (country/state/city level), and device/browser type, discarded and non-linkable after a short period.
7a. Legal Requests
We may disclose your information if required to comply with applicable law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of ReadAgain, our users, or others.
7. Your Rights & Choices
- Access/Review: You can review your reading data, notes, and profile information within the app.
- Deletion: You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account. This removes your account and associated data from our active systems.
- Correction: You can update your profile and preferences directly in Settings.
- Export: Data export is not currently available as a self-service feature. If you'd like a copy of your data, contact us at the email below.
We'll respond to any data request sent to the contact email below within 30 days.
Where applicable under state privacy laws, you may also have the right to: know what information we've collected about you, request access to it, request correction, appeal a denied request, and not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. Contact us below to exercise any of these rights.
8. Data Security
We rely on our providers' security practices, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and Supabase's authentication and access-control systems. No system is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security of your data. If we become aware of a security incident that compromises your personal information, we will notify affected users as required by applicable law.
8a. Third-Party Links
ReadAgain may link out to external sites or services (for example, book database lookups or retailer links). Once you leave ReadAgain, that site's own privacy policy applies — this Privacy Policy does not cover third-party sites, even when you reach them from a link in our app.
9. Children's Privacy
ReadAgain is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
10. International Users
ReadAgain is currently operated from and primarily used within the United States. If you are accessing ReadAgain from outside the U.S., be aware your data will be processed in the U.S. by the providers listed above.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as ReadAgain evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
